Constructivist Early Childhood Science:
Building Inquiring Minds

Maryville University’s School of Education and College of Arts and Sciences, in partnership with the St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS), the Missouri Botanical Garden and other non-public school participants, received a two-year grant from the Missouri Department of Higher Education for “Improving Teacher Quality.” The purpose of the project is to build understanding, use, and assessment of constructivist science teaching strategies by early childhood teachers at the following locations: the district’s two early childhood centers (Wilkinson and Stix), a new continuation school for grades 3 through 5 (Humboldt), and selected nonpublic schools. The goal is to improve student learning outcomes in science.
