Week of April 2, 2012 – Twelfth Week of the Semester
Quote of the Week
Plan to attend the 2012 Research Symposium! The Symposium will be held April 20th starting at 4pm in ABAC 3249. We have a great keynote speaker lined up, Halcyone Brown, who earned her communication degree from Maryville some years ago and now is working at the Science Center doing volunteer and intern management. She is excited to return to campus and we are lucky she is willing to speak about volunteer management at a nonprofit organization. Additionally, several students will present their research. This should be a great event. We hope to see you there.
Lunch and Learn: Nonprofit Communication! Students interested in nonprofit communication can join Dr. Dohrman at 12:30 next Wednesday (April 11th) in the dining hall at a big table near the window side of the hall for a conversation about nonprofit organizational structures, jobs, and resources in St. Louis. Questions such as: What is a nonprofit? How do nonprofits fund their organizations? What could I do in a nonprofit organization with my communication degree? will be answered…and more! I hope to see you there!
Organization Development Network (ODN-STL) Event: ODN-STL is hosting an event about the gamificationof business on Thursday, April 12th at the Heights at Hwy 40 and Hanley Rd. This event is $25 and promises to be both unique and very interesting. The event runs from 7:30-9:30am, so it is a great option for our students working full-time. This would be a great networking opportunity!
Press Club of St. Louis event: The Press Club of St. Louis is hosting an event about publishing your own bookon April 26 out here in Town and Country at 6pm. The event is $17 to attend and includes an appetizer reception. Students interested in journalism and broadcasting might particularly enjoy this event.
