To be admitted to the Teacher Education Program at Maryville and be licensed to teach by the state of MO, undergraduate students must pass the CBASE. If this is your first time to take the CBASE you will register to take the exam in its entirety. If you have taken the exam in the past – but did not pass all of the sections, you may register for a retake of those specific sections.

Maryville students requiring testing accommodations MUST pre-register no later than two weeks prior to the exam so that we are able to order correct testing materials and make testing arrangements. Payment for the exam is due on the date of the test. You must pay at that time (preferably with a check payable to Maryville University) or your test will not be forwarded for scoring and recording.
Copies of the CBASE Student Guide are available in the School of Education. The booklet will acquaint you with the kinds of questions you will encounter as well as how you can prepare for the exam. We recommend that you bring a calculator to use during the test. See below for the acceptable calculator diagram and functions. While not required, it is allowed, and it has been found to be very helpful. You may not use a dictionary or spell checker. Be sure to bring a sweatshirt or jacket – the room can be chilly.
Information you should have on hand for the test: Your current GPA, your ACT Score, the total number of college credit hours you have completed, the number of college credit hours completed at Maryville University.
What you should bring to the exam: A photo I.D., payment for the exam (checks payable to Maryville University), a few #2 pencils, a calculator (see below), a jacket or sweater (sometimes the room is cold – you might not want to wear flip flops!)
Use of Reference Material During Testing:
Students may not use dictionaries (including hand-held computers or spell-checkers), notes or any other reference material during testing.
Use of Calculators During Testing:
Students may use hand-held, non-printing, 4 function ( +, −, x, ÷ ) or 6 function ( +, −, x, ÷, %, √ ) calculators during the examination. Allowable calculators may include a limited memory function, which will store one to three numbers after it is turned off. Scientific and graphing calculators, which have extended memories and perform multiple functions, are not allowed. (See Appendix E in the Students’ Guide to College BASE for a generalized diagram showing the appearance of allowable calculators.) Any student who wishes to use a calculator should bring one, but students not using calculators will not be disadvantaged. Students are not allowed to use cell phone calculators or share calculators.
