Shortening Your Program

Should you discover that you will complete your program of study earlier than the program end date shown on your form I-20, you should request a new form I-20 as soon as your academic advisor can confirm the new end date. The new end date will affect your ability to apply for post-completion OPT. Failure to shorten your program, however, will not extend your 60-day grace period.

  1. Discuss the reason for your early completion with your academic advisor.
  2. Ask your advisor to sign the shorten program form to confirm your new end date.
  3. Submit the form to International Student Success.
  4. ISS will create the new form I-20 and let you know when it is ready for pick-up (normally, within 5 business days.)
