Mock Jurors Needed!

Apr 12, 2012

On April 24th in Buder Commons at 5pm the Law in the Film Honors Class is putting on a Mock Trial.  The underlying case is based on an alleged case of employment discrimination of someone with HIV/AIDS.

We are in need of potential jurors to hear the case.  Pizza and soda will be provided.  Honors students will receive credit for attendance.  Students will go through the process of jury selection (voir dire) and may be selected to hear the case.  They will also deliberate that evening and render a verdict.

Please make this announcement to your classes as you feel appropriate.  In order to get a head count for food, those planning on attending should e-mail me at mparker@maryville.edu.  Thank you for your help with this project.  These students have worked very hard and playing to a “live” audience and getting a true experience will benefit them greatly.  The evening should conclude by 8pm.

Hockey to Benefit KEEN St Louis

Apr 04, 2012

As a reminder, the Bandit hockey game to benefit KEEN St Louis will take place this Saturday, April 7th at 6pm. If you checked out tickets to sell, it is very important that you turn in your unsold tickets/money to me, to Bryan Collier, or to Dr. Green TODAY or TOMORROW!! We have to have all of the unsold tickets and money collected prior to the game. With the holiday weekend coming up, we thought we better be safe than sorry as far as collecting the money before everyone takes off for the long weekend. Keep in mind that if you have friends/family that want to go to the game, but have not had a chance to buy tickets prior to you turning them back in — people can buy tickets on game day and mention Maryville University in order to still benefit KEEN St Louis.

If you do not have the opportunity to see Dr. Green, Bryan Collier, or myself in person today or tomorrow, you can place the unsold tickets/money in an envelope and have Sandy or Sue in the Arts and Sciences office place the envelope in my mailbox (someone staffs the desk until 6pm tonight and tomorrow night). Make sure to also put your name on or in the envelope so that we can credit you for turning in your checked out tickets.

THANKS!!!

Volunteers needed!

Mar 14, 2012

M*PWR needs your help! Want to support the Race Against Violence off the racetrack? Consider volunteering to petition signatures for the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization before and after the event!

Here’s what you need to know about VAWA:

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), enacted in 1994, recognizes the insidious and pervasive nature of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking and supports comprehensive, effective and cost saving responses to these crimes. VAWA programs, administered by the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services, give law enforcement, prosecutors and judges the tools they need to hold offenders accountable and keep communities safe while supporting victims. VAWA must be swiftly reauthorized to ensure the continuation of these vital, lifesaving programs and laws. VAWA is up for reauthorization this year and it needs your support. It is imperative that we continue funding for community violence prevention programs, legal aid, and other forms of protection for survivors.

We need 4 volunteers; please contact Alicia Trebus, atrebus@live.maryville.edu, if interested!
