A blog is a website, which an individual or group of users provides opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis. Maryville offers faculty and staff a WordPress blog site.

You can start a personal blog by visiting blogs.maryville.edu and logging in with your Maryville credentials. To create a class blog, contact the Interactive Media Group.

ConexED (Canvas “Meetings”)

ConexED is the provider of Maryville’s new synchronous meeting platform. ConexED allows for faculty and students to host live webinar sessions where they can video chat, text chat, share desktops, conduct polls…etc. Sessions can be recorded and shared via URL.

Canvas

Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) used at Maryville. It offers a platform for instructors to post class announcements, share a course syllabi, provide learning materials, manage online discussions, collect and grade assignments, facilitate quizzes, and track grades.

Document Camera

A document camera is a real-time image capture device for displaying an object to a large audience. It allows the presenter to write on a sheet of paper or display a two or three dimensional object while the audience watches on a projection screen. In theory, all objects can be displayed using a document camera. The library has two Samsung SDP 860 document cameras that are available for checking out.

Grammarly

Grammarly is an online grammar and plagiarism checker. Maryville has a campus-wide license where all faculty, staff, and students can create an account and upload papers for checking. Grammarly checks submissions for more than 250 common and advanced grammar rules. In addition, Grammarly’s plagiarism checker scans the text and highlights potential issues.

Kaltura

Kaltura Video Platform is a media streaming server. Kaltura allows faculty, staff, and students to easily store existing multimedia projects AND create high-quality multimedia projects. You can record audio / video, screencasts, and lectures using PowerPoints. In addition, everything created in Kaltura can easily be embedded in Canvas.

Lynda.com

Lynda.com is an online library of courses on software tools and skills. Maryville University has a campus-wide license and provides unlimited access to all faculty, staff, and students.

Lynda.com is a leading online learning service that helps users learn business, software, technology, and creative skills through video tutorials. With a library of over 255,000 videos, organized into courses, Lynda.com is the premier organization in terms of providing opportunities for personal and professional development.

Creating a Login

Once your profile is created, access Lynda.com by logging in to www.lynda.com from anywhere.

Mathematica

Mathematica is the ultimate computation tool. Maryville has a site-wide license for the software.

Download Instructions

You must be on campus in order to download the software. When prompted, your user name is maryville/username and your password is your Maryville password.

After installation, open Mathematica and register the software.

  • Click Other ways to activate
  • Select Connect to a network license server
  • Type the server name nt6s26-maryvm.ad.maryville.edu

Qualtrics

Qualtrics is an online survey program that allows you to create and distribute surveys and run analysis and reports. Maryville has a campus-wide license available to all faculty, staff, and students.

Respondus

Respondus is a program for creating and managing exams that can be printed or published directly to Canvas. Maryville has a campus-wide license for Respondus. Create exams offline or move exams from one LMS to another. Use Respondus to convert exam questions from a text form (e.g., Microsoft Word document) to a Canvas format, and then publish directly to your Canvas course. Respondus also has the Respondus Test Bank Network, which contains thousands of test banks for the leading textbooks in higher education.

Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Canvas and is available for PCs, Macs, and iPads. When students use the browser, they are unable to print, copy, visit websites, or access other applications. When an assessment (quiz) is started, students are locked into it until they submit it for grading.

SMART Board

SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard. With a SMART Board, instructors can interact with multimedia content and writes notes in digital ink, and then save them instantly and distribute the material to students with ease.

SMART Podium

SMART Podium is an interactive pen display that connects to a computer so you can interact with media-rich content on a high definition widescreen display and project your work onto a larger screen for an audience. You can open presentations, documents, applications, websites, and multimedia files. In addition, write notes over them in digital ink and save your work for distribution or later reference.

Turnitin

Turnitin is a plagiarism detection tool, which is available within Canvas. Turnitin’s originality check helps instructors check students’ work for improper citation or potential plagiarism by comparing it against a huge text comparison database, including webpages, student papers, leading library databases, and publications.

VoiceThread

A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slideshow that holds images, documents, and videos. Maryville has a site license. It allows you and your students to navigate slides and leave comments in a variety of ways: voice (using a mic or phone), text, audio file, or video (using a webcam). With VoiceThread, group conversations are collected and shared in one place from anywhere in the world.
