WHAT?: Jane Smiley will read from and sign copies of her new children’s novel, The Georges and the Jewels. This is the first children’s novel by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of A Thousand Acres. In this debut, Smiley sets her story on a ranch in the 1960s. Her heroine is twelve-year old Abby, dealing with the stresses of home and school while training a stubborn horse called Ornery George.
