What Did We Do Last Fall?

Music Therapy students are a very kind group of talented folks (otherwise they wouldn’t be drawn to Music Therapy as a career).  Below are some pictures of our students at Maryville’s Involvement Fair promoting the Music Therapy Student Association, and an orientation/welcome – with gifts (don’t count on ’em every year) – for shiny, new Music Therapy students.

We’re Catching Up, Folks

Okay, a lot has happened since your lowly Blogmaster has added stuff.  In order to make things easier, I’ve mooshed together pictures of various recitals and ensembles for your viewing pleasure!  As a Maryville Music Therapy major, you are expected to perform in student recitals and ensembles to get ready for the big deal -your very own senior recital!  Our students like to shake it up a bit, including a guitar ensemble doing acoustic versions of Michael Jackson songs in zombie/Thriller type makeup.  How cool is that??? Note:  You can click on most of the pictures to enlarge

Although the Blogmaster has been a bit remiss of late . . .

. . . it doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been A LOT of activity in Maryville Music Therapy world!!  As you’ve seen in previous posts, our MT program likes themed events!  Music Therapy Seminar class hosts their end-of-semester party, and the theme was CHRISTMAS IN APRIL!!  Following are some pictures of the great time had by all (complete with ugly Christmas sweaters!)  Music Therapy students know how to throw a party!!!

Camp Stepping Stones

Three of our current Music Therapy students and two of our alums worked at Camp Stepping Stones, a bereavement camp for children last summer.  They worked with the campers and used their comments as lyrics for a song they co-wrote unto the wee hours of the night.  This video and song is a result of their efforts.  Enjoy!!YouTube Preview Image

End of Semester Party!!!

On the last day of class, the Music Therapy Seminar class hosts an end of semester celebration for our Music Therapy students.  This year was no exception.  As students hurried all week to finish up projects and study for final exams, they were able to relax and party as only our students can do!  This year’s celebration was Hawaiian themed, complete with a pot luck and dancin’!!!  To see more pictures and video from the party, check out Maryville Music-Therapy on Facebook.

Music Therapy Students Do MRO!!! (Maryville Reaches Out)

Each year Maryville University organizes Maryville Reaches Out – where students, faculty and staff are encouraged to donate their time, efforts and skills to a non-profit organization for a day.  This year, our music therapy students and faculty worked with St. Louis Arc, a non-profit, United Way agency that provides support and services to more than 3,000 adults and children with developmental and intellectual disabilities,  and their families, throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Our students compiled a list of song and music based activities for the residents of St. Louis Arc, and learned and practiced the songs shortly before leaving for St. Louis Arc.

Below are some pictures of their efforts!  (double click on a photo to enlarge)  Thanks to Jacob Bizaillion for taking these awesome pictures!!

Seminar End of Year Party!

Each semester, the Music Therapy Seminar class holds an end of semester party on the last day of school.  Below are some pictures of our students having fun.  Be sure and check out the video at the end of the article—our students did an impromptu version of Eight Days a Week for our special friend, Joe.  We hope you enjoyed it, Joe!
