Ann Fick Receives Special Recognition from MPTA

  MPTA recently awarded $1,000 to three winning schools to help promote physical activity.  The application to apply for the grants was included in previous MPTA newsletters and posted online. All public and private middle schools and junior high schools in the state of Missouri were eligible.Left: Ann Fick and Marcie Harris Hayes present Johnnie Singleton from Stevens Middle School with a Physical Activity Grant check. Stevens Middle School’s application outlined plans to use the funds to purchase sports equipment, water bottles, pedometers, etc. Students will log their use of the new supplies and the physical education teachers will monitor the logs.

PT Program Welcomes New Faculty Member

 

Welcome Barb Shiplett, PT, Ph.D. 

Barb  joins the faculty at Maryville University after spending two years as an Assistant Professor in the Health Department at the State University of New York, College at Cortland.  At Cortland, Barb taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in community health.  She graduated from Washington University with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy and  has worked both as a clinician, primarily in orthopedics, as well as in administration as the Manager of Rehabilitation Services at Emory Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, GA. Barb received her Ph.D. in Health Education from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 2007.  Blending her background in physical therapy with health education, her research interest addresses women’s health, specifically the prevention and management of osteoporosis.  Barb is very interested in building bridges between the various health professions to address chronic diseases and conditions.
