Earlier this month, six of our undergraduate students and two graduate students joined Dr. Chris Barnhill in Kansas City to volunteer at the NAIA National Basketball Championship. The tournament, which spans six days and hosts 32 schools, bills itself as college basketball’s toughest tournament. Abby Duethman, Cameron Fagundes, Shawn Maloney, Brittany Moore, Armon Provo, Samantha Robinson, Michael Smith and Joanne Thompson put in two marathon days at the tournament and gained customer service, media service, sales, event management and hospitality experience. Gina Crawford, volunteer coordinator for the tournament, praised the students and expressed interest in having Maryville volunteer at next year’s event .
