Finch Center Hosts Second SoTL Conference

The Finch Center for Teaching and Learning at Maryville recently hosted the second annual Scholarship o f Teaching and Learning Conference (SoTL) on campus. The conference attracted more than 130 attendees  from 29 different regional institutions.

SoTL is the systematic reflection on teaching that is made public. Conference attendees were given the opportunity to  broaden and deepen their knowledge of SoTL as it relates to Academic Culture. Keynote speakers included Tony Ciccone, PhD, and Carmen Werder, PhD.

Ciccone is a Senior Scholar and past director of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement  of Teaching. Ciccone is also director of the Center for Instructional and Professional Development and professor of French at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Werder directs the Teaching-Learning Academy at Western Washington University. She was joined by five students who are engaged in SoTL with their professors. Werder is also a co-editor of Engaging Student Voices in the Study  of Teaching and Learning (Stylus, 2009).
