 Ben Carson, MD
Ben Carson, MD, celebrated pediatric neurosurgeon, will present the next lecture in Maryville University’s St. Louis Speakers Series at 8 p.m. on Nov. 30. The same day, he will make an appearance on campus at 12:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. The campus visit, free and open to the public, will run about 30 minutes and include brief remarks by Carson and a question-and-answer period.
With his mother’s support, and his determination to overcome poverty, Carson became the world renowned director of pediatric neurosurgery for Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33. Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George Bush in 2008, his life story is portrayed in the film Gifted Hands, starring Cuba Gooding Jr.

We will be discussing “Gifted Hands” at our next book club meeting, 12/2, so I am excited to be able to see Dr. Carson in person. His story is very inspiring. Thank you Maryville for hosting this very notable individual.
