Maryville University is making plans for this year’s Alumni Weekend, including favorite traditional events and new additions for alumni and their families. Alumni from all years are welcome, with the Class of 1962 celebrating its 50th reunion.
Reunion Weekend this year will be held from Thursday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 30.

During Alumni Weekend on Friday, Sept. 28, Maryville University honors alumni with several specific awards celebrating their work to strengthen their communities, their considerable contributions to the University and the ways they have put the knowledge and values from Maryville into practice in their own lives. This year, 10 alumni will receive awards.

The Maryville University Department of Athletics has announced its 2012 inductees to the Saints Athletics Hall of Fame. The class features student-athletes Marissa Essner Johnson, Amanda Nuyt, Maureen Walterbach Redeker, former coach John Renaud and the newest recipient of the Lonnie Folks Award, Eugene A. “Roscoe” Dorriere. This year’s induction ceremony will take place Thursday, Sept. 27 in the University Auditorium.

At the Shaw Nature Reserve, five Maryville University undergraduate students and Maryville Assistant Professor of Biology Kyra Krakos are conducting field research this month that could help scientists identify how changes in the region’s climate impact local plant communities.

Maryville University alumna Veronica Hilyard, ’91, won the Ms. Missouri Senior Pageant in a July 8 competition at the Florissant Civic Center Theater. The pageant, held annually, celebrates the accomplishments of women over the age of 60. Hilyard now goes on to the national competition in Atlantic City, N.J. from Oct. 7-12, 2012.
