WELCOME TO TEACHING LEARNING COLLEAGUES’ COLLECTION OF IDEAS FOR LEARNER-CENTERED TEACHING!
Maryville University’s strategic plan for 2015-2022 embraces the concept of Learner-Centered Teaching. The Teaching Learning Colleagues (TLC) created a dual-purpose collection of learner-centered teaching ideas to assist faculty in moving from an instruction to a learning paradigm. It includes practical ideas that can be quickly adapted to different disciplines as well as resources for more in depth research.
During Fall 2014, the TLC team members divided themselves into 3 small groups, all of which worked on learner-centered ideas, but each with a slightly different emphasis. While there is some overlap, three categories emerged:
- Acquiring Learner-Centered Teaching Strategies
- Building Engaged and Inclusive Environments
- Developing Learner-Centered Courses
Each category contains a definition/description of the guiding theme, specific examples, and a list of resources for further exploration. These categories are just the beginning of a more comprehensive menu to be determined by YOU. Please tell us what kind of help you desire or what kind of help you can offer to augment our menu.
