Canvas, a Learning Management System (LMS) created by Instructure, Inc., became Maryville’s LMS in summer 2014. Canvas is a cloud-based system that allows instructors a place to post class announcements, share a course syllabi, provide learning materials, manage online discussions, collect and grade assignments, facilitate quizzes, and track grades and attendance. In addition, it offers flexibility via its iPad app, so that instructors and students can access their courses from anywhere. Instructors also benefit from the free SpeedGrader iPad app for grading assignments and quizzes.

For an introduction to Canvas, watch the short video below.

Learning Design and Technology (LDT) fully supports the use of Canvas on campus, and we provide different ways for you to learn how to use it effectively.

Online Documentation

Canvas provides online documentation in the form of Canvas Guides. Here, you will find step-by-step instructions for how to use Canvas. In addition, Canvas provides a guide detailing what notifications appear in your activity stream or are sent to you based on your ways to contact settings.

Recorded Workshops

LDT hosts training sessions online through Adobe Connect. These recorded sessions are available for you to view at your convenience.

Canvas provides videos on different topics and gives you more ways to learn about what you can do with Canvas through its Vimeo and YouTube channels.

Group Workshops

Periodically, LDT hosts groups workshops on Canvas and other technologies. Upcoming workshops and registration details can be found on the Professional Development page. Check back often as the page will be updated as workshops become available.

One-on-One Consultations

LDT is available to meet with faculty on a one-on-one basis. Contact us to schedule a consultation.
