Conference Explores Civic Education

“Gateway to the World,” an international conference for educators on innovative democracy and citizenship programs, will be held at Maryville University on Nov. 20-21. The conference is hosted by the University’s Center for Civic Engagement and Democracy.

Educational and community leaders from Morocco, Poland, South Africa, Ukraine and the United States will discuss their particular democracy and citizenship education initiatives.

Presentation topics include:
•    Discussion of best practices
•    Exploration of student and educator international collaborations
•    Examination of innovative educational programming in Morocco, Poland, South Africa, Ukraine and the U.S.

The conference is designed for higher education and K-12 educators, as well as community, business, governmental and non-governmental organizations. In addition to country-specific sharing, the conference offers opportunities for networking and developing new international partnerships.
