on November 18, 2009 by Janet Edwards

The Maryville University women’s basketball NCAA Division III record of 92 consecutive conference wins was commemorated at the team’s recent home opener on Nov. 14.  A banner unveiled prior to the game will hang  permanently in Moloney Arena, along with a timeline recognizing those players named All-Conference during the six seasons spanning “The Streak.”

The Saints are in the process of reclassifying to NCAA Division II, thus ending the streak which began in the 2003-04 season. Over this time span the women’s basketball team has won six consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) regular season titles and four conference tournament crowns.

Allie Wilhelm, Saints all-time leader in blocked shots and field goal percentage, receives an award from President Lombardi and Tony Duckworth, athletic director.

“We think this record is going to last forever,” said KatieJo Kuhens, sports information director. “We broke the old record of 72 consecutive wins during the 2007-08 season.”

The athletics department invited all players and coaches involved with the streak to the celebration and many of these players rank as all-time leaders in various career categories.
