Two sets of Maryville University parents welcome Leap Day babies
The Maryville University campus celebrated the arrival of not one _ but two _ Leap Day babies born to University employees at Mercy Hospital St. Louis on Feb. 29.
The Associate Director for the Center for Academic Success and First-Year Experience Kelly Mock and her husband Brad welcomed Jack Thomas Mock at 6:55 p.m. on Leap Day. He weighed 7 lbs. and 11 oz. Then at 7:30 p.m. at the same hospital, the Assistant Director of Student Involvement Brian Gardner,
’03, ’07, and his wife Jeni had a little girl Allyson Marie Gardner, described by her proud father as “9lbs., 20.25 inches and drop-dead gorgeous.”
Both babies are the second child for each family. The families happened to be neck-in-neck with the birth of their first children, too. Two years ago, the Gardners had first baby Matt early and “beat” the Mocks’ first baby Charlie, but the Mocks “beat” the Gardners with their first baby by about 35 minutes, explains Jen McCluskey, Maryville’s Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The campus community congratulates the happy parents.
