
Maryville welcomes 900 graduates as newest alums
University President Mark Lombardi conferred academic degrees for hundreds of students during an outdoor spring commencement on May 5. St. Louis Juvenile Court Judge Jimmie Edwards, known nationally for his work developing an alternative school for troubled youth in St. Louis, delivered the commencement address.

Students collaborate with National Blues Museum on downtown art project
Maryville students teamed up with the National Blues Museum to create a blues music mural in the windows of the Laurel Building, future site of the museum in downtown St. Louis.
In April and early May, Maryville students with the support of artist Phil Jarvis painted their own designs onto the building’s massive 11-foot by 5-foot windows that line Washington Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets.

May 18 dedication for Cookie and T.R. Potter Jr. Hall
Maryville University will hold a dedication ceremony for its newest residence hall at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 18, in honor of Cookie and T.R. Potter Jr. The building’s name recognizes Maryville alumna and former trustee Marguerite “Cookie” Potter-Feinberg and her late husband T. Randolph Potter Jr.

Politicians, authors in the mix for 2012-13 St. Louis Speakers Series
The 2012-13 St. Louis Speakers Series will feature a variety of leaders, authors and personalities, including former Republican Presidential candidate Jon Huntsman, Jr., former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, author Jeannette Walls and former Mexican President Vincente Fox.

National Association for Campus Activities names Gardner ’03, ’07, to Executive Committee
The National Association for Campus Activities recently announced Maryville’s Assistant Director of Student Involvement Brian Gardner ’03, ’07, will serve as vice chair for programs to its board of directors.

Authors Deford, Brinkley and Bissinger next up for Maryville Talks Books
ST. LOUIS – Maryville Talks Books, a signature author series from Maryville University, has a strong line-up featuring three additional books and their authors in May and June.
Upcoming authors include renowned sportswriter Frank Deford, historian Douglas Brinkley talking about Missouri native Walter Cronkite and author Buzz Bissinger, known for his sports books but writing more recently about his two sons. Admission to these on-campus events is free and open to the public, with seating on a first come, first served basis.

Register now for the 24th Annual Golf Classic on July 16
The 24th Annual Maryville University Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, July 16, 2012, at the Old Hickory Golf Club in St. Peters, Mo. The event is hosted by the Maryville Department of Athletics.
