Maryville University is making plans for this year’s Alumni Weekend, including favorite traditional events and new additions for alumni and their families. Alumni from all years are welcome, with the Class of 1962 celebrating its 50th reunion.
Alumni Weekend this year will be held Thursday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 30, with almost all of the events free for alumni and their guests. Whether alumni want to catch up with a favorite professor, take part in an athletics event, an arts gathering—or all of those— there are plenty of opportunities to visit with old friends, make news ones and learn more about what is happening on campus.
A new, family-friendly event called LouieFest runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday evening. The outdoor gathering will feature live entertainment, a cookout, carnival-style games and a washers tournament. It’s being organized by the Young Alumni Board, made up of graduates from the last 10 years, and students serving on the Campus Activities Board.
At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, a Coffee House Social will be held in Buder Family Student Commons, where alumni will share musical performances. All are welcome, and organizers hope this new addition to will appeal to graduates from the 1970s to the mid-1990s. Director of Alumni Relations Erin Verry said, “It’ll be a chance to reconnect with friends, have a drink and listen to live music in a laid-back atmosphere.”
The Athletics Hall of Fame Reception will begin at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday in Pfaff Lobby, followed by a 6 p.m. awards program in the adjacent Maryville Auditorium. “In order for more people to participate, the venue and the format have changed,” Verry said.
On Friday, Sept. 28, Maryville will honor 10 alumni will during the Awards and Recognition Program, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in Maryville Auditorium. (Please see the related articles in this issue of “The Clocktower” for biographies of this year’s award recipients.)
Also new this year is Maryville University Alumni Day at the Edward Jones Dome. The St. Louis Rams will play the Seattle Seahawks in a noon game on Sunday, Sept. 30. A $40 package includes one terrace level ticket and a $10 food and beverage voucher. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Maryville University Alumni Association.
